Captain Bligh was an extraordinarily interesting character. The mutiny on his ship, The Bounty, is something we're taught about in school, something Hollywood took an interest in, and numerous books have been published on him. Despite historians efforts to give a more balanced account of the events around him, he was often made out to be a horrible person. This was definitely not the case! The reason we have used his name, is due to how incredibly integral he was to Australia's history of alcohol. Captain William Bligh planted the first apple trees in Australia, 5 of them at Adventure Bay on Bruny Island in Tasmania, he likely planted the first grape vines, implemented the colonial brewing laws to initiate a farming industry in Australia, and was the pivotal figure in what is known as "The Rum Rebellion", the only successful armed takeover of government in Australia's history. The overthrow was triggered by Bligh trying to stamp out corruption in the NSW government; with officials using rum as an illegal currency and making themselves very wealthy. Of course, they were not thrilled about, at this time, Governor Bligh's, interference. Bligh was also the most gifted nagivator to have lived. Quite possibly a savant, and a little misunderstood in his time, he accomplished navigational feats that even today are the stuff of legend.

We started as a cidery, rapidly evolved into a brewery, and have since become a brewstillery. The business has been in operation since 2010, and the distillery was comissioned in 2018, when we started filling casks.
